Is Buprenorphine (Suboxone) Treatment Right For You?

The epidemic of opioid abuse throughout the United States has greatly increased the number of opioid dependent individuals.  With a much larger population dependent on opioids, there is also a larger population of those seeking help.  In the past decade, prescription opioid drugs have become a major part of this national epidemic. The first step is to understand which phrase defines the person looking to begin recovery.  The person has either an "opioid dependence" or an "opioid addiction".  This is important to distinguish early on to pick the proper path for recovery. Opioid Dependence  - an individual with opioid dependence has been using opioids for an extended amount of time, and their body and mind has become accustomed to the drug and its effects (can acquire dependence to opioids in as little as 1-2 weeks).  If the opioid use is stopped or greatly reduced the body and mind will react negatively, the person experiences withdrawal symptoms.  Most individua

How to Find Suboxone Doctor - Great Resource for Finding a Doc

Living addicted to opiates is a roller coaster ride, and not many people on that particular ride are happy exactly where their life has ended up.  Many users of opiates want a way out, but options are pretty limited. In most cases you can: continue on using drugs, cut yourself from opiates and go cold turkey into withdrawals, try to ween yourself off of the substance overtime, or find a doctor or clinic to begin a suboxone or methadone maintenance program. Now opiate maintenance is essentially switching your body from your opiate of choice to another opiate/opioid. Suboxone and methadone both are used in maintenance programs. Methadone is most often administered in a clinic setting, while suboxone is prescribed by a cerified physician.

If you are interested in pursuing a suboxone maintenance program I would highly recommend using the NAABT website as a resource. The NAABT (National Alliance of Advocates for Buprenorphine Treatment) website provides an awesome tool that allows you to find a doctor in your area that suits your needs. This will anonymously send an email to all registered doctors in your area, with your own message included and any questions you may have. Those doctors who have openings and suit your specific needs will reply with information needed to start your treatment.

You can click here for the
NAABT website

Another great resource I have found pertaining to suboxone is a forum and blog started by an actual Buprenorphine doctor in Wisconsin. He is very knowledgable and the forum provides endless insight from actual patients. The blog is Suboxone Talkzone and the forum can be found there as well, here is a link  Suboxone forum.

I hope this will help those looking for suboxone maintenance programs.

Take care..
